Is Day Shift starring Snoop Dogg crap?

Jamie Foxx and Dave Franco star in "Day Shift," a vampire hunting movie. The story is about a hardworking blue collar dad who wants to provide a decent life for his smart daughter. But his boring job cleaning pools in San Fernando Valley, California, is only a facade for his real income source, hunting and killing vampirics as part of the international Union of vampire hunters.

The premise sounds exciting, but can J.J. Perry deliver on it?

Jamie Foxx's opening scene in Day Shift is an action sequence that sees him shotgun blasting an old lady who turns to be a Vampire. It then leads into a nuts fight between the pair that is so much fun. The movie's use of rag-doll physics in its action scenes makes them pop in a way other Netflix action movies (or blockbusters) do not. It's hard not to think of the old adage about how "action speaks louder than words" when watching a scene like this, and while there is certainly some truth to that, I think part of the reason "Day Shift" is so effective is because it knows how to use both action and dialogue to further the plot and character development. For example, after Jamie Foxx's character finally kills the vampire, he has a hilariously dry exchange with his partner about how he "thought she was going to turn into a bat or something." Moments like these are what elevate "Day Shift," above similar movies.

Day Shift, is the movie that makes you feel so bad you're actually enjoying it. It is clear what they were trying and yet they fail so badly. The acting is poor, the dialogue is stilted and the plot is a mess. It was enjoyable, though. Maybe it's because I'm a sucker for vampire movies, or maybe it's because I just enjoy watching bad movies. Day Shift was fun. While it isn't a great movie, it's very entertaining. That's really all I want from a movie such as this.

Day Shift was a very mixed movie. On one hand, there is a lot of fun action and some fun characters (the brothers and Seth), but on the other hand the villain was horrible and there are a lot of mediocre characters. It appeared that there were some scenes that were not shown. Bud's neighbor acts almost like they're close friends, even though (published here) Bud only had three minutes of screen time prior to the final scene. It seems that this helps the stronger characters shine more. Overall, it's an enjoyable movie, but it could have been better.

Snoop Dogg was almost forgotten about. He is great in Day Shift. The whole movie is worth it because of him. His character is funny and he has great lines. He is so natural in this role. It's almost as if he was meant to do it.
